Creating art has been part of my identity for most of my life. As a mother and teacher, most of past creative endeavours were focused on my children and students. I always encouraged my two daughters to play around with art and crafts, and both have very creative careers, one a fashion stylist and the other a writer. Now that my girls are grown, and my husband and I have settled down to a life in the Okanagan Valley, I have more time and energy to create my own unique pieces that fully represent me as an artist.
Over the past five years, I have been creating mixed media pieces that speak to the important aspects of our lives. Family, friends, nature, love, home, and a sense of self figure prominently in these works. I focus on a specific person or subject and all of my design choices, such as colour, text, ephemera and pattern reflect the subject matter. My abstract paintings, full of texture and rich earth tones, imitate the world that grounds us, and the ways in which we connect with our surroundings. I am inspired by the beautiful scenery that surrounds us in the sunny Okanagan including vineyards, orchards, and extensive hiking trails. I enjoy incorporating these aspects of the terrain in my landscape paintings.
I love creating art with a personal touch. I am most creative when I get to work on a piece for a special person, place or event. I would love to work on a commissioned piece for you, just visit my commissions page for more details.
